About

Many of you might already know me as the owner of Furniture Sales of Mid-America located in Omaha and in business since 1964.  We’ve built our solid reputation on selling truckloads and container loads of furniture to top retailers in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain Regions.

Twenty five years ago I left the ranks of corporate consulting to make my start in the furniture industry.  My grandfather and my father both made the industry a career path, and the industry had been good to both of them.  It’s been a great career for me as well filled with ups and downs like any business, but nonetheless a career I have learned a lot about and would like to share with others.

After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a business degree in Accounting, I thought a corporate career path might be my calling.  I am a CPA by training but quickly figured out after working in a Big 8 Public Accounting firm, that sales was not rewarded by bean counters (I found out after the fact that salesmen and bean counters don’t get along in most companies).  I gained tremendous knowledge about important financial matters, but I quickly left the corporate world for the entrepreneurial one via a career in furniture.  I’ve peddled furniture as a retailer, a rental store owner, a wholesale/distributor, and a factory representative for upholstery and case goods.

Over time I have received numerous awards including

The Small Business Administration’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year.

The Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce honored us as being one of the Top 25 Fastest Growing businesses in the state for three years in a row.

Over the years we have built a nice repping company selling to the major accounts in a 15 state area. We have been named salesmen of the year over a dozen times by National Furniture factories.

I have spent many years growing one business or another in the furniture business.   I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge from my own experiences as well as watching the best practices of the Top Retailers.

Over the last several years, I have taken the equivalent of a Masters Course in Direct Response Marketing.  I attended several seminars, studied numerous curriculums and interviewed dozens of direct marketing wizards.  Through this collected learning, I have compiled multiple different strategies that have easy application to any business.  I was honored to be a finalist for Marketer of the Year of the internationally renowned Glazer Kennedy Organization.

Some of these strategies are basic and you may even be implementing them at this time.  But others are cutting edge, and frankly I am not aware of to many small businesses and entrepreneurs who have taken the time to learn or put systems into place to get these advantages.
